Raphael S. F. Longobardi, MD, FAAOS has been named Chairman of Department of Orthopedics at Holy Name Medical Center (HNMC). Dr. Longobardi has been on the medical staff of HNMC since 1996. As the new Chairman of the Department, Dr. Longobardi will maintain and improve the specialized orthopedic services offered HNMC.

“As the new chairman, I look forward to this opportunity to focus on the clinical, academic, and research facets of development of the department,” notes Dr. Longobardi. “As we grow from past tradition, we will strive in our pursuit of excellence for today, and work to exceed our goals in the future.”

Dr. Longobardi is a renowned Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon and Sports Medicine Specialist with expertise in shoulder, knee and elbow reconstruction and repair, and has devoted his professional career in orthopaedics to educating, rehabilitating and advocating proper techniques and strategies to treat, as well as, prevent athletic injuries.

In addition to his new position at Holy Name Medical Center, Dr. Longobardi has a private orthopaedic surgery practice, University Orthopaedic Center, PA, with a concentration on sports medicine in Hackensack, NJ.  He earned his medical degree at New York University School of Medicine and completed both his general surgery internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at New York University Medical Center. Dr. Longobardi completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic at the University of Tennessee. He has since been a team physician and consultant for numerous professional sports teams, including the 2003 World Series Champions Florida Marlins, US Tennis Association, NY/NJ Metro Stars Soccer and NY Islanders Hockey Team. In addition, he is currently a team physician for Bergen Catholic H.S. and Berkeley College, as well as consults on various collegiate and professional athletes. Dr. Longobardi is a member and fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, member and New Jersey Delegate for the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America and International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and American College of Sports Medicine.
